It had become quite common (at least to me) to hear of the undersea cables that extend from Britain's coastline. These arteries of the information economy, which contradict the idea of the internet as an invisible and immaterial cloud, serve here as the basis from which to explore the nature of the UK coastline at a time when there pervades a political rhetoric of 'clean breaks' and 'decoupling' in relation to the country's ties to Europe.
